About HRL Additive

HRL Additive emerged from HRL Laboratories, LLC as a commercial supplier of high-performance additive material in June 2019. HRL Additive’s mission is to develop and produce materials for additive manufacturing that significantly exceed any available on the current market, while maintaining low cost. Our materials are designed to provide our customers with a competitive advantage and remove design constraints artificially imposed on the additive industry due to inferior materials.

HRL Additive’s origins date back to 2014, when HRL Laboratories began investigating methodologies to improve processing of high-strength aluminum using powder metallurgy. This initial research developed the breakthrough functionalization technology that made HRL Additive possible. Dr. Hunter Martin developed a new way to introduce inoculants during additive manufacturing and make previously unprintable alloys printable. This solidification control was published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature in September 2017. Since then the HRL team has been working to optimize compositions and parameters to produce the highest performing additive aluminum on the market today, 7A77. HRL Additive was created to commercialize this product and provide a streamlined path to market for future additive alloys under development.
